Period 5 2009-2012

Surplomb

From verticality to horizontality, the presence of the body remains. Observing the horizon has guided humanity in its trajectories. Today, all the representations of our terrestrial globe remind us of its finiteness. The closed world where time is lived in the moment entices us to look from above and try to understand where we are going, where we are while maintaining our axis.

Les endormis / 2011

Bas-relief with digital photo covering, 55 x 52 x 6

To take a vertical distance to situate ourselves geographically, to overlook to discern what lies below.

Parcorps / 2012

Bas-relief with digital photo covering, 203 x 155 x 40

This sculpture is a bas-relief positioned on the ground. The presence of the body is guessed more than seen; it is suggested. The body appears buried under books, forcing the viewer to walk around the room to make out the shape of the body while discovering the diversity of the open books, as if by chance. Book culture spreads out like a single carpet, connected together like the parcorps process that assembles the different constituent elements of a book.
